What follows from there will take time, knowing the horse physically, emotionally and mentally will help you advanced your understanding of yourself and your own behaviour. This knowledge and training acquire will over time help you to respond, problem solve quickly and have good respectful, responsible actions around horses. This will require you to cultivate patience, perseverance and deep love for yourself to take the next step into basic handling of the horse.
Basic handling will include leading, grooming, picking out feet and arranging halters, tying up and clearing stable. This could all happening in the first session; but it’s more about how it happens. Horsemanship is a great tool for life and relationships, to be present and have the capacity to let the moment unfold without force or mis-communication. More advanced horse handling leads to sitting on the horse, riding and working with the horse on the ground (applying gentle pressure with your body to give direction) which is released as soon as the horse responds. This will include actions like walking, stopping, and pace of movement.
